Mis-Shapes has always been about creating the kind of night we wanted to go to ourselves: a packed dance floor, great music from start to finish, and no filler.

Expect everything from The Strokes, LCD Soundsystem, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, and Soulwax to Wolf Alice, Haim, Charli XCX, and loads more.

For the launch night, we packed the set with the tracks we loved. But for Vol. 2 on Saturday, 18th July, this dance floor belongs to you just as much as it does to us.

We aren’t interested in being elitist or gatekeeping in what we play. If a track gets people moving, it goes in the box. Whether it’s heavy post-punk basslines, classic early-2000s indie-sleaze, electro-crossover, or brand-new alternative anthems—we want to know what you need to hear shaking the walls of Bailiff Bar.

Since the pandemic, if you wanted to hear anything that wasn’t standard chart music or the same ten commercial house tracks, it often felt like you had one option: walk down to North Western station, buy an overpriced return ticket, and spend an hour travelling to Manchester or Liverpool.

You spend your night paying city-centre prices for a pint, dodging massive queues, and constantly checking your phone because you’re terrified of missing the last train home. If you miss it? That’s a £50 taxi bill just to get back to your own bed.

We’ve all done it. We did it because we felt we had to if we wanted to hear proper music.

But things changed last month.

When we launched Mis-Shapes at Bailiff Bar, we didn't know if anyone would turn up. But the room was packed out. It proved something we’ve suspected for a long time: Wigan doesn't lack an alternative crowd. It was just lacking a home.

We hope Mis-Shapes can be one small part of changing that. There are brilliant people, venues and promoters in Wigan, and we’d love to see the town’s alternative scene continue to grow.

You don’t need to spend half your night on a Northern Rail carriage just to hear Fontaines D.C., Charli XCX, LCD Soundsystem, or proper indie-dance anthems on a massive sound system. You don’t need to pay city prices, and you definitely don’t need to worry about a midnight curfew.

The alternative scene is right here, on your doorstep, with completely free entry all night.
